The "Maria im Schnee" chapel

The Becherhaus has been home to the “Maria im Schnee” chapel since 1911. It is the highest and most unique chapel in Europe, lying at an altitude of 3,195 m. Back in the day, the chapel together with the refuge was built to honour Empress Elisabeth and is now heritage-protected. This chapel is one of the highest Marian shrines in the Alps.

If a priest is present, one or two religious services are held in the chapel during the summer.
